Undergraduate Degree Requirements and Honors Option

Simple Requirements

Prerequisite
Complete at least 2 of the following Courses:
Earn at least 16 credits

Complete 16 credits of foreign language courses 1010, 1020, 2010, 2020 in one Latin American language.

Complete ALL of the following Courses:

Complete at least 1 of the following:
Earn at least 6 credits

If studying Spanish, Portuguese, or Nahuatl

From SPAN, PTGSE, or NAHTL 3000 - 5999.

The following courses cannot be used to fulfill the requirement:

OR
Earn at least 6 credits

For students studying Quechua, from the following types of courses:

  • Relevant coursework outside of Latin American Studies’ courses.

  • Allied courses must be pre-approved.

  • Please see an International & Area Studies advisor for details.

Prerequisite

From either the below list of courses or the following Subject Codes and Ranges:

SPAN, PTGSE, NAHTL, or QUECH 3000 - 5999.

The following courses cannot be used to fulfill the requirement:

Earn at least 15 credits from the following:

Earn at least 3 credits

Complete 3 credits through a relevant study abroad program, internship, research course, community-engaged learning course, or an honors thesis. The selection must be pre-approved by an IAS advisor.
