Be knowledgeable about general concepts, theories, and methods used in the discipline of Linguistics;

Be knowledgeable about the research literature, theories, and methods in the study of syntax and phonology;

Be able to evaluate and synthesize research literature on topics with their selected areas of expertise;

Be able to undertake research on a selected topic that contributes to knowledge in that area (thesis students);

Be prepared to take positions in the public, private, or nonprofit sectors or to undertake graduate study at the PhD level.
