Program Description
The Mathematics Teaching major is intended for students who plan on becoming teachers in the secondary school system. It includes all the required mathematics content courses for an endorsement in 6-12 Mathematics through the Utah State Board of Education (USBE), a sampling of courses required for the secondary (6-12) teacher licensure program through the College of Education, as well as additional depth and breadth courses beneficial for mathematics teachers. Students in this degree program should also meet with College of Education academic advisors as well as their Department of Mathematics advisor. The Mathematics Teaching major alone does not qualify individuals for recommendation for a secondary teaching license. Individuals wishing to obtain a secondary teaching license will need to take additional licensure coursework through the College of Education.
