External Program Accreditation

National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The Music Education emphases are also accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)

Program Description

The Bachelor of Music (BM) degree is an accredited professional degree in music. Structured around a shared core of music courses, students choose from 12 different emphases in performance, pedagogy, composition, or music theory and related, specialized coursework. Students participated in a variety of musical performing opportunities from solo performance to chamber music to large ensembles, that vary depending on individual interests and area of study.

  3. Jazz Composition Emphasis

  4. Jazz Performance Emphasis

  5. Music Composition Emphasis

  6. Music Education: Choral Emphasis

  7. Music Education: Instrumental Emphasis

  8. Music History and Literature Emphasis

  9. Music Theory Emphasis

  10. Organ Performance Emphasis

  11. Piano Pedagogy Emphasis

  12. Piano Performance Emphasis

  13. Vocal Performance Emphasis

Program Admissions Requirements

Auditions are required for this major. Students must be admitted to the University of Utah before they can be accepted into the major. Faculty will assign students to specific emphases, based on certain criteria.
