PhilosophyMaster of Arts/Master of Science

Ability to read and analyze philosophical texts, both contemporary and historical. (Evidence of learning will be GSQE)

Reading knowledge of an appropriate foreign language, normally one of German or French. (Evidence of learning will be passing a second semester language class with a B or above, or passing an MLA examination (grade of 67 or better).)

Broad background in the following philosophical areas: Ethics and Value Theory, Metaphysics, Epistemology and Philosophy of Science, History of Philosophy, Logic and Formal Methods. (Evidence of learning will be grades of B+ or better in courses (B for Logic and Formal Methods).)

Mastery of subject matter content in areas of competence at a level supporting ability to teach undergraduate classes. (Evidence of learning will be B+ or better grades in courses.)

Ability to develop extended written treatment of a philosophical problem. (Evidence of learning will be MA thesis)
